I’m Nancy DeVries and I am an interior decorator. I decided to get my diploma in interior decorating when I drop out of university studying acting. Not that there’s anything wrong with an education in the art of acting, I just realized it was not the career path that I was passionate about.
Since that decision, I have worked in the decorating and design field to this day. Call me stubborn (I am of Dutch stock after all) or hopelessly passionate about wanting to help people make their homes the best place to live.
I completely understand that clients want beautiful and stylish homes but that they might be too busy to source every tile or paint colour option or too overwhelmed to make all the right decisions themselves. Sometimes you just need a professional to bounce around your ideas and to find out what’s actually possible in your time frame or budget.
When it comes to specifying window treatments and blinds, I stay current by completing my yearly certification in the Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Professional Dealer Program. I’m committed to continued learning to be an expert in window fashions from the leading custom window covering manufacturer, Hunter Douglas.
And to show you that I am a professional in the design business, I am an accredited member of the Decorators & Designers Association of Canada (DDA) which advocates for interior decorating excellence. I even won the Gold Award in the Homestaging category in CDECA’s 2014 Decorating and Design Competition for a display show suite that I styled and decorated in Surrey, BC.
